Review

A star rating of 4 out of 5.

Paul Rudd returns as the Avengers' insect-sized superhero in his third - and best - solo outing. As the title hints, Rudd's Scott Lang is pinged into the Quantum Realm, the subatomic universe below our own, after his techie daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton) beams a signal there. Joining them are Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), aka Wasp, and her parents Hank (Michael Douglas) and Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), who spent 30 years in this freaky place. Director Peyton Reed wastes no time showing off the Realm, its myriad aliens, plus Bill Murray as Janet's ex-lover, Krylar. But the real deal comes with the introduction of new foe Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors, superb), who is living in exile and in need of escape. What follows is a rollicking Star Wars-inspired adventure, as Ant-Man and co join rebel forces to face off against Kang's evil empire. With a surprise appearance from an old Lang adversary, this is tremendous fun, and a great way to kick off Marvel's Phase Five.
